Genoa, Nev. — The reported 2.49 inches of rain that fell in Markleeville on Wednesday evening doubled the amount of water in the East Fork of the Carson River just below Markleeville Creek from around 3 feet to 6 feet. I expect we’ll hear more about the damage today.

Rainstorm roulette continues today as the monsoons continue to pump moisture into Western Nevada, with a flood watch extended across the state through this evening for the Sierra Front and then continuing for northern Mono and southern Lyon counties through Friday night.

While southern parts of Carson Valley saw rain from Wednesday’s storm with Fredericksburg seeing .78 inches, it was dry as a bone in Genoa and other spots in the northern half of the Valley.

Douglas County commissioners are scheduled to discuss to hear a presentation on lease-purchase of $40 million to finance construction of a new judicial center and remodeling the existing Judicial and Law Enforcement Center at their meeting 10 a.m. today in Minden.

Debate on the fire sprinkler ordinance and how to proceed in finding an East Fork Justice of the Peace will take place late in the meeting, that starts 10 a.m. today at the Historic Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden. Inflation hit Candy Dance weekend when Town Board members voted to increase the price of tickets for the dinner dance that occurs on Saturday night. They also selected a poster and decided they wanted Mormon Station State Park to fill up with vendors before beginning to allocate them to businesses.

Rumors of the Genoa Church’s imminent collapse were put to rest by a close inspection of the foundation. Genoa Co.’s Roger Falcke reported the supports were solid after a trip under the building. He believes a wall upstream from the church should be sufficient to protect it.

Hot August Nights was hit by a deluge in Reno last night. The Poker Run starts to roll into Minden around 10 a.m. today. About an hour later, the chance for thunderstorms and showers increases in Minden. Otherwise expect increasing clouds and a high temperature of 91 degrees, with the wind out of the west at 5-10 mph, gusting to 20 mph.
